‘Leader’ and ‘Manager’ are both very commonly used words in the world of organizations, sometimes interchangeably. In a way it makes sense to call managers ‘leaders’ and not other way around, as managers do lead their respective teams towards identified goals. However, if we are to make a closer inspection to determine the subtle difference between a leader and a manager, we need to highlight that ‘identified goals’ are only a part of the mechanism that works towards completing the ‘bigger picture’. This ‘bigger picture’ is the business vision or long term goals that A leader ideates. A leader is the keeper of these long term goals and he/she leads the teams to meet them.
However, what is interesting is- the journey from a start up to a successful business enterprise leads to changing of the status quo. Which means- a leader must manage his/her teams (like a manager) and managers must lead the teams through solving problems and aligning team efforts towards achievement of bigger goals.
So, does it means that leaders and managers are the same? Well, Not really. To identify the difference, we need to know how managers operate or how they contribute in an organization.
For a country to grow, it must substantiate growth and engagement for its common man, as the productivity of common man ascertains the ascent of a country, socially and economically. And countries have made incredible strides in search of the perfect social mechanism (jobs) that can engage majority of the population and forward the society (and the country) towards economic stability.
Computing and communications technologies claiming the lime light in last two decades, had created an enormous employment opportunity across the world. With the rest of the world, the growth of IT sector in India played an integral part in creating jobs for people, enriching lives.
However, the recent IT job slump in India has introduced the critical question on unemployment issue. And while India is searching for a quick and sustainable infrastructure to re-employ and engage its people, the solution stands at hands reach.
As an entrepreneur, when you are trying to create your business from scratch, and have found something excessively simple yet unseen to the world, it is your sacred responsibility to yourself and the world to make your everyday productive. It is how you can help your fragile and precious business dream to grow, spread, and find the form that will change the world in a certain manner.
While on such a noble pursuit, an entrepreneur must make certain changes to his/her daily actions, to maintain focus on the goal, side-lining distractions.
