In March 2019, India achieved nearly 99% rural electrification status. The electrification scheme also known as Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana, or Saubhagya electrified more than 45,000 households every day for last 18 months. This showcased India’s commitment towards progress, understanding electricity as one of the basic requirements of life. Considering that more than 68% of people in India live in rural parts of the country, this was a decisive action and the journey from the drawing board to success has given India a very realistic idea of how to lead the country towards wholesome growth.
However, electrification of households do not necessarily mean uninterrupted power supply 24×7, which was targeted to succeed by March 2019. Unfortunately, there is still a major gap between electrification and receiving reliable power supply in major states like- Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. Therefore, in order to consider 24×7 power for all a reality in the near future, we need to identify hurdles and find solutions.
Businesses are living organisms given life by the team that tirelessly works towards a goal. With creative people being at the helm of such a venture, new changes in ideas, choices, and actions are given shape each day. ‘Leader’ and ‘Manager’ are both very commonly used words in the world of organizations, sometimes interchangeably. In a way it makes sense to call managers ‘leaders’ and not other way around, as managers do lead their respective teams towards identified goals. Which means- a leader must manage his/her teams (like a manager) and managers must lead the teams through solving problems and aligning team efforts towards achievement of bigger goals.
So, does it means that leaders and managers are the same? Well, Not really. To identify the difference, we need to know how managers operate or how they contribute in an organization.
Every successful leader understands that success in business comes from team effort. And leaders bear the responsibility to steer the team towards the right path. But how? Is it just instructions, planning, and great speeches that maintain a team’s resolve and keep them focused through elaborate plans to meet gigantic goals?
